Graduation 2005 - For many students, it's a happy time of year - a very happy time. Graduation is that pinnacle ceremony in which hard work is publically recognized, when the graduate gets that all-important degree in their hands for the first time! Commencement will take place on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at 7:00 p.m., in the Kenai Central High School auditorium. Speakers include KPC director Gary Turner, and UA President Mark Hamilton. The student union will host a small reception afterwards.Summer Classes - The Fast Track - For many students, summer is a welcome break from the rigors of academic achievement. Yet the great university machine does not stop turning its wheels for the summer break. For the more driven students, summer classes offer an opportunity to get ahead of their class and achieve their academic goals more quickly. KPC has plenty of summer classes, offered May through August 2005.Kenai Fish Academy - A New "Angle" - That's right, when it's springtime in Alaska, it's time for students to consider summer school. Once again, KPC is offering the Kenai Fishing Academy as part of the KPC summer school program. Students can choose between two "Educated Angler" courses.Dena'ina Language Institute Returns to KPC - The people's language is coming back! On May 30, 2005, the third annual Dena'ina Language Institute (DLI) will commence. Elder mentors, curriculum developers, linguists, anthropologists, and language learners will commune to speak in the native tongue of the Kenai Peninsula and Cook Inlet region. The DLI is a three week summer language program open to anyone interested in learning and sharing the Dena'ina languages.Kachemak Bay Writers Conference - For four days this summer, Homer will be the site of a nation-wide writer's conference, featuring such luminaries as former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins. The fourth annual Kachemak Bay Writers Conference takes place June 10-14, 2005 at Land's End Resort. The conference is sponsored by the Kachemak Bay Campus of KPC, and will offer workshops, readings, lectures, and panel presentations in fiction, nonfiction, poetry and drama.Room
128 Undergoes Computer Lab Conversion - After spring
break, Room 128 appeared with brand-spankin' new computers. However, instead
of being continually open for student use, like the other computer labs
on campus, Room 128 will be limited to students enrolled in the various
classes held in that room. KPC's IT staff believes that the new computers
will be more efficient and more conducive to student use.
